Meditation & Why we should do it

Meditation & Why we should do it

Before you read the following article, just hit the PLAY button of the SOUNDCLOUD audio.

In our popular culture, meditation is synonymous with stress-reduction. It helps to reduce stress, but that is not the only thing it does.

Meditation is the meeting with one’s own self. We human beings have a tremendous potential to achieve many things in our life. Our body is a tool that helps us to perform all the tasks.

It is just a hardware which follows the commands from the central unit which is known as our mind.

This controlling unit has a tricky mechanism. If this device is ‘left to its own devices’, it keeps on sending commands in a haphazard manner. And though we all are endowed with the same device, some find success and some face failures, some achieve happiness whereas some suffer from depression.

Of course, there are external circumstances that play a vital role in people’s lives. Yet, the majority of people suffer just because of lack of control over their mind.

Unfortunately, no technique has ever been successful in controlling the mind.

Meditation itself doesn’t offer a helping hand here.

But, it shows the way to ignore the mind. It takes us beyond the barrier of our mind and we meet our own true self – which is an ocean of peace.

This term ‘Meditation’ is commercialized , and many people sell it as an antidepressant or anti-anxiety drug.

So, people do it only when they think they are in need of it.

And here is the real trouble. It should be a routine activity such as brushing your teeth or taking a meal.

After incorporating it into your routine, you will start noticing its benefits gradually.

Now, the question arises : ‘How to do it?’ or ‘Is there any specific technique to do that?’

There are many ways one can do that, but the simplest one would be to have an instructor who can guide you on your journey.

In the era of AI, we can do away with human assistance in many fields. Meditation is also not an exception.

And here comes the term ‘Guided Meditation’ – about which we will talk in our next blog.
